Leather

Corn leather is a bio-based material made primarily from corn starch fibres. These fibres, also known as polylactic acid fibres, are derived from real corn through the microbial fermentation of corn starch—a byproduct of agriculture.

Corn starch fibres are valued for their durability and mechanical strength. When enhanced with polyurethane, they form a resilient corn leather fabric that’s ideal for crafting our bags. Corn leather also replicates the look and texture of animal leather.

The corn leather we use is vegan-friendly—crafted from naturally-derived corn starch fibres and polyurethane, with no animal-based materials involved.

When cared for properly, corn leather is long-lasting and highly durable—just like traditional animal-based leathers. Its lasting strength lies in the natural durability of corn starch fibres, and the reinforcing properties of polyurethane.

We recommend cleaning the corn leather surface with a lightly dampened cloth and allowing it to dry naturally.

If you're considering any chemical cleaners or conditioners, we advise to always perform a patch test on an inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility.

Corn leather is also used to produce clothing, footwear, and food packaging.

Our corn leather is partially made from renewable materials. It has a 53% bio-based carbon content rating, which indicates the percentage of the material that is sourced from plants or animal products. In our case, 53% of its composition comes from renewable sources like agricultural byproducts in the corn industry.

While durable, corn leather is not waterproof. To help preserve its quality, keep your product dry and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.

Don’t be fooled by the name—our corn leather isn’t edible. It may look good enough to snack on, but we promise it won’t taste like your favourite corn on the cob!
